radenroro crop jacket blazer batik eyelet tank top

I just want to make it clear, none of the pieces of this outfit is by Dries Von Noten. I just used his aesthetic for an inspiration. I’m a big fan of his, he uses a lot of ethnic textiles from all over the world, one of the beautiful ones is batik from Indonesia. Well, I was born in Indonesia, but that’s not the only reason why I’m a big fan of Dries, I also love how he’s able to create chic modern styles using the traditional fabrics like batik.

I got my batik skirt in Indonesia when I was on a vacation in Bali, but this batik is actually Javanese batik. I paired it with a white eyelet lace tank top. I created two looks using this skirt and the tank top. For meeting clients earlier that day, I threw on my favorite Radenroro ‘Yudia‘ crop jacket (in caramel) and stepped on my china print silk satin pumps. This is a great look for work, whatever your occupation is, it’s layered without being too hot on skin because the jacket is made of silk and the skirt is made of cotton. I accessorized with layered chunky metal chains and a stack of tortoise bracelets. Later that day, I was meeting a friend for cocktails, I just left my jacket at my office and changed my pumps to my wooden-heeled sandals for a more casual look. I think this two looks are fresh and pleasantly chic.

radenroro lipstick pink silk blazer jacket tulle tutu skirt

We all girl love tulle crinoline/tutu skirts but let’s be honest, most of us would feel a bit hesitant to wear these infamously fabulous ‘ballerina’ skirts. Only Carrie Bradshaw could pull it off, right? Well, no, I’ve proven that with the right styling, tulle skirts could be amazingly wearable and we could wear them without looking costume-y.

My inspiration for this look was obviously ballerina. My black tulle long tutu skirt is covered with of metallic aurora borealis teeny tiny speckles, so I basically can just throw on any colors to go with it on top. I opted for a ‘geisha face’ graphic shirt and layered it with my favorite Radenroro ‘Yudia’ jacket in lipstick pink. As for the shoes I chose my corset Loubies as a take on the ballerina lace-up shoes, I think they play out well with the ‘ballerina’ crinoline skirt.

My party was downtown, for a less-downtowny party, I’d just recycle this look and switch the geisha shirt to a black bustier top and the red mesh bag to a clutch. I’d put my hair up on a messy bun and just put on a pair of diamond stud earrings.Voilà!

I would never have thought that the color lime green with the shiny sparkly black could look and feel airy together. I thought those colors together would look ‘heavy’ and cumbersome. But yesterday I was fashionably surprised when I put together a look using a lime green long pleated skirt with a black sequin crop top, it looks and feels so easy breezy light! I also think the style of the shoes I chose were the perfect accents to achieve the light look. The summer heat should never stop you from being adventurous with your outfits! They just have to be light..
